April & Brian Jensen started Scenic NorthWest Surgical Outreach with a simple goal in mind: to provide free medical services in remote locations. Scenic NWSO is a 501(c)3 non-profit based in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. We organize outreach trips to areas in Central America & Africa that provide medical care, surgeries and community development in those locations.
Brian and April started their relationship in Honduras in 2008 while studying International Rescue & Relief. They have two young and adventurous boys at home. April Jensen is a board certified General Surgeon with a Master's of Public Health. Brian Jensen is a EMT, Firefighter, and pilot in training. Prior trips have included Honduras, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi, and South Africa.
Our goal is to send surgery and medical teams around the world to provide much needed surgeries to impoverished communities and also to help build those communities through development projects. Through donations, fundraisers and grants, we bring medical supplies to these locations, provide free surgeries and teach medical students, surgery residents, local surgeons and support staff along the way.
There are lots of ways to support the cause! We are seeking medical supplies such as sutures and gloves, donated equipment, and money to purchase additional supplies. Every dollar you donate goes directly to the mission of supporting surgery teams to travel to remote locations and provide much needed surgeries. We support and collaborate with local non-profits in the regions we travel. Donations are eligible for tax-exempt status.
If you are interested in an upcoming surgery trip, let us know and join our surgery teams! Scenic Northwest Surgical Outreach will be returning to Guatemala and Kenya every year and are always looking for people to join our cause. If you are interested in a trip, check out the upcoming trips page and fill out an application!
We finished our last fundraiser, Petals for a purpose. With the support of the local medical school Western University of Health Sciences, we delivered Valentine's day flowers and the proceeds help support purchasing medical supplies for our trip to Kenya & Malawi in February 2025.
