April & Brian Jensen started Scenic NorthWest Surgical Outreach with a simple goal in mind: to provide free surgical screenings to underserved Oregon communities, scholarships for low-income healthcare workers, and international surgical outreach and community development. Scenic NWSO is a 501(c)3 non-profit based in the Willamette Valley, Oregon.
Brian and April started their relationship in Honduras in 2008 while studying International Rescue & Relief. They have two young and adventurous boys at home. April Jensen is a board certified General Surgeon with a Master's of Public Health and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. Brian Jensen is a EMT, Firefighter, and pilot in training.
Our goal is to make healthcare accessible to everyone! We are grateful to work alongside Oregon nonprofits, clinics, health centers, and community organizations to deliver surgical screenings and expand surgical access. We value our sustainable partnerships abroad. Scenic Northwest Surgical Outreach organizes international surgical missions with the ultimate goal to invest in sustainable healthcare, capacity building, and equitable care — both here at home and abroad.
There are lots of ways to support the cause! We are seeking medical supplies such as sutures and gloves, donated equipment, and money to purchase additional supplies. Every dollar you donate goes directly to the mission of supporting surgery teams to travel to remote locations and provide much needed surgeries. We support and collaborate with local non-profits in the regions we travel. Donations are eligible for tax-exempt status.
If you are interested in an upcoming surgery trip, let us know and join our surgery teams! Scenic Northwest Surgical Outreach will be returning to Guatemala and Kenya every year and are always looking for people to join our cause. If you are interested in a trip, check out the upcoming trips page and fill out an application!
We finished our last fundraiser, Petals for a purpose. With the support of the local medical school Western University of Health Sciences, we delivered Valentine's day flowers and the proceeds help support purchasing medical supplies for our trip to Kenya & Malawi in February 2025.
